April 2024 promises to be a powerful month. As I write we are in the midst of eclipse season, anticipating the Jupiter Uranus conjunction as well as the full moon. What is perhaps the most surprising about his eclipse is that it is not the end of the story; the story being "eclipse season". Eclipses have been revered and feared throughout history: some native tribes advising to stay inside and practice reverence, compared to the modern day `Great American Eclipse 'that motivates tourism and encourages folks to be outside and experience the eclipse (with special viewing glasses, of course). In the more general meaning of astrology, eclipses are understood as resets, reboots, and/or times for great acceleration or reorientation if need be. All of these versions of what an eclipse means have an element of the pinnacle of the experience being the eclipse itself. While this is certainly the case, we are being reminded this eclipse season that the energetic experience is far from over.
We are conditioned to tell a good story and to get to the bottom of things, and so the desire to figure out what the eclipse means for each of us is definitely present and valid. However, this eclipse is more like opening a jar of fireflies.. and allowing them to dance around until fall. We have a 6 month period after the eclipse season is done to work with the energetic downloads we receive. At the end of that 6 month period we will be ushered into the second eclipse season of the year along with Pluto's last dip into Capricorn for the next 248 years.
The Goddess present during this eclipse and new moon is Hecate. Hecate is modernly depicted as a somewhat scary woman, whose name in Greek translates to "she who works her will" or "the far reaching one". Both of these translations point to her role as goddess of magic, the night, the moon, communicating with spirits who are beyond their bodies, as well as goddess of the crossroads. She is often seen with two dogs, holding a pair of snakes (primordial power) or two torches (to assist Persephone's journey from the underworld back to the physical world and the beginning of spring.
I offer that her origin (like all other powerful goddesses) lies before Greek and Roman times. There are some scholars who place Hecate as Heka in Egypt. The word "heka" in the Egyptian language is also both the word for "magic" and the name of the god of magic and medicine, Heka. In all cases, her energy is perfect for us now as we are living in times of tremendous transformation, the goddess of the crossroads, magic and making things manifest into the physical world provides us with her wisdom about living through time of change. I offer a mediation to commune with Hecate in the podcast. I also invite you to join me for an upcoming gathering to dive into the Jupiter Uranus conjunction on April 20th, it will be a free preview into those energies as well as a time to explore my upcoming course/healing offering the Karma Clearing Project. Make sure you join my email list to get all the details this month!
