We live in transformative times. Times of death and rebirth, as this Full Moon's Ixion Activation reminds us.

If Ixion is Pluto's lawless brother, this means he is the "lawless" version of the process of death/rebirth and transformation. Depending on the higher or lower octave of Ixion's expression this death /rebirth transformation could look karmically intense and chaotic, or it could look powerful and full of clarity and light. The higher octave of Ixion points us to transcendence of traditional ways of thinking beyond linear space and time... and opens more fully the notion of an ever expanding universe, beyond linear time and space and time.. with limitless potential for all because there is more than enough for everyone.

The notion of "lawlessness" can sound a bit extreme if we look around using only the lens of the physical world. A physical world without laws would be chaotic and anarchistic as best. The lower octave of Ixion shows us that lawlessness on this level is met with karma and/or cosmic justice: Ixion, however disrespectful and self serving we may have behaved, was ultimately met with the message that a free-for-all of this kind would not be tolerated. It is actually only when we look to the higher octave of Ixion that we can understand the nature of his true power, and this is precisely why the Greek and Roman myths tend to hold hidden secrets beyond the surface level.

Let's also explore the question of why we need laws.
Q: Why do we need laws?

A: Because some part of humanity still lives in world fear and separation. At least some portion of this thought form holds that humanity is so dark and selfish that they can't be trusted and need to be controlled. There's plenty of evidence for this in the mundane world.

A: What if its time to move above and beyond the notions of fear and separation. I offer that this full moon supports us in transcending the mundane reality of laws and linear time.
The notion that we become like the 5 people we surround ourselves the most with... lead me to the opening quote for this full moon offering: What if it's not just the people, it's the everything and everywhere? This begs the need to tend to our energetic space and surroundings, and to surround ourselves with those who support us in thriving. December brings us two powerful lunar events, the first of which is the new moon, exact on 12/12 and 3:32 pacific time. I discuss the overall astrological themes in the podcast, but wanted to spend some time here in the blog post giving more information about Quaoar and Pholus, as well as the Butterfly Effect. 

Let's begin with the astronomical/astrological significance of Quaoar and Pholus. 
Quaoar, discovered in 2002 is one of a collection of small, distant worlds known as Trans-Neptunian Objects (TNOs). Roughly 3000 are known. As the name suggests, TNOs are found in the outer reaches of the Solar System, beyond the orbit of planet Neptune. The largest of the TNOs are Pluto and Eris.

Pholus is conjunct Quaoar during this new moon, and together they are in a powerful trine with Mercury, the planet of communication. They support us in reaching towards the higher octave of mercury, the notion of communication beyond written and spoken words, the energetics of communication and the continual energetic offering of our vibration as a communication. While Quaoar is a TNO that is very balanced in orbit and tilt, Pholus is a centaur (closer in towards earth, centaurs are found within the orbital range of Saturn to Neptune. Centaurs are closer to us than TNOs, thus making their mark more quickly in space and time. Remember that TNOs work in subtle energy/upper dimensions, while earth and inner planets tend to work in 3d/lower dimensional energy(lower does not mean bad :)

Pholus, discovered in 1992, was the second Centaur discovered. It was due to the finding or unveiling of Pholus that the planetary class of Centaur was defined (Chiron and Phlolus were then grouped into this new class). It is worth noting that astronomical discoveries clipped along at a much more rapid pace after Pholus came into our awareness. This is consistent with the archetypal nature of Pholus, taking something seemingly nebulous, whimsical or even chaotic and quickly transforming it into something very visceral. When I say quickly, I am understating the nature of Pholus, as it works beyond space and time, so the manifestations happen just like that. Quicker and without the usual amount of time, effort and space. 

Which segues nicely into the butterfly effect! The butterfly effect rests on the notion that the world is deeply interconnected, such that one small occurrence can influence a much larger complex system. The effect is named after an allegory for chaos theory; it evokes the idea that a small butterfly flapping its wings could, hypothetically, cause a typhoon. Or it could not – the mind-boggling part of the butterfly effect is that it’s virtually impossible to predict whether a small system will lead to chaotic behavior.

The term is closely associated with the work of mathematician and meteorologist Edward Norton Lorenz. (He discovered the effect when he observed runs of his weather model with initial condition data that were rounded in a seemingly inconsequential manner. A very small change in initial conditions had created a significantly different outcome.)

​I offer that chaos theory is the only way modern science can truly embrace the notion of neness... because we do not yet have the tools, formulas and "big brains" capable of comprehensively understanding in 3d the notion of oneness. We cannot explain with science why quantum entanglement happens, but we can document that it does. Quantum entanglement is pointing us to oneness, it shows that time and space collapse when we send out consciousness somewhere. In a similar vein the butterfly effect reminds us that everything and anything are always possible. I offer (the nonscientific interpretation) that it is precisely because a butterfly (you) can flap its wings in the amazon (offer a proper vibration for the vibrant future) and produce a storm in europe (create the new future now) as the Butterfly Effect of this conjunction of Quaoar and Pholus with Mercury in Capricorn. 

I also offer that this is the nature of the conjunction between Quaoar and Pholus on the December 12 new moon. They are both capable of bending our notions of time and space to harmoniously and magically create in the physical world. I hope that this inspires you to harness the power of our moment to moment vibration!
