Our breath is a powerful an essential part of existence. Every morning when you wake up, our breath is there to greet us. And have you noticed how good it feels to take a nice deep breath? Yep, it totally instantaneously you present. Breath can be subtle too, as you go through your day, shortness of breath can lead to feelings of fatigue or even light headed-ness, deep naturally flowing easy breath can bring feelings of presence, empowerment and confidence.
So what does all of this have to d with energy healing? Everything.
Breath brings Prana, or life force energy, into the body. It signals the physical body and mind about what's going on and how to respond, but on a deeper level it is available to act to rejuvenate, clear, connect and empower the body on its physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. Now that may sound like a lot to take in and understand if your just getting into energy, breathing, and consciousness beyond what we can see. So let start in this post to unpack the first two levels: First, the breath as a way to connect to our physical bodies and calm the mind and Second, the breath as a source of prana for emotional healing.
The first level is really simply our daily physical plane of existence: our bodies and our minds often connect in the linear third dimension as we look to things happening around us for evidence of what is going on. This can be a fundamental source of stress of happiness, depending on what you are experiencing and observing, as things in the physical plane are often perceived as evidence of fact/what is true. To offer an overly simplified example: if you life an perfectly how you'd like it then you are 100% happy as you life is a reflection of you deepest desires, on the opposite end of the spectrum, if you are living in a situation that is not at all what you truly desire then you are deeply dissatisfied and longing for a complete change... and everything in between. I simplify because the larger point is that on the physical (and especially in the linear minded) plane of existence we are looking for evidence and proof of our happiness in order to find it. So if we see and believe in the evidence we are happy and if we don't see or believe we aren't. This totally short changes how powerful we are and what we are capable of creating.
But before we throw the physical plane and linear thinking out altogether, I would encourage us to find a softer/middle way. Why? Because most of us, at least half of the of the time, at least for now, exist 100% in the physical plane and linear thinking! So we can really benefit from starting with where we are at, and building, healing, and expanding as we feel comfortable. This is where our breath becomes a powerful practice, as it allows us to begin to bridge the gap between what we've learned that may not be true and what we deeply know but are really only exploring the path of what that means.. There's no need to jump ship or throw the baby out with the bathwater as they say.. All we really need to do is breathe.
So what have we been taught that may not be true?
And what do we deeply know but only beginning to explore?
And how can our breath help us to heal and integrate these two?
Once we begin to unpack and allow our minds to relax, we can get more deeply into our breath as a source of prana.
